Dating back over 230 years to the Revolutionary War, band members have always been an important part of the U.S. Army. Army Bands provide music throughout the spectrum of military operations to instill in our soldiers the will to fight and win, foster the support of our citizens, and promote our national interests at home and abroad. Army Music, (ATP 1-19) is the doctrinal publication for Army Music. It provides key guidance pertaining to the mission, organization, and operation of music performance units (MPUs), music headquarters (MHQs), music performance teams (MPTs), and music performance detachments (MPDs). This manual should serve as a guide for training and operations based on the tenets of music supporting unified land operations. The officers, warrant officer bandmasters, noncommissioned officers, and Soldiers of Army Music are members of the Profession of Arms and experts in the delivery of music in support of operations. The mission of Army Music is to provide music supporting unified land operations and instill in our forces the will to fight and win, foster the support of our citizens, and promote America’s interests at home and abroad. Army Music serves as a combat multiplier and plays an integral part in the sustainment of forces engaged in unified land operations.
