Deep River is an anonymous African-American spiritual, first found in print in 1876. It became well-known after Henry Burleigh (1866-19549) published it in his 1916 collection Jubilee Songs of the USA. It has been described as one of the best known and best-loved spirituals.

Deep River has been included in several films. The 1929 film, Show Boat, featured it. Paul Robeson (1898-1976) famously sang it accompanied by a male chorus in the 1940 movie The Proud Valley. Chevy Chase (b. 1943) sang it in the 1983 blockbuster hit National Lampoon's Vacation.

This Grade 2.5-3.0 arrangement requires the technical skills and musical maturity of high school or older performers. It is scored in common time in the Key of D Major with a modulation to end in F major.

This volume includes a score and individual parts for a trombone quartet. In addition, there are parts that can be used to create quartets for instruments of every instrumental transposition (C, Bb, Eb and F in Treble Clef and C in Bass Clef). The parts can be flexibly used to form like-instrument quartets or mix and match instruments as you choose.
