A dye is a chemical, usually an organic compound, used for permanently coloring textiles and materials. A large amount of effluent containing azo dyes is discharged from printing facilities into natural water bodies, causing water contamination. It is crucial to break down these dyes before they are released. Various physical, chemical, and biological methods are used to treat textile wastewater, including adsorption, chemical precipitation, photolysis, chemical oxidation, reduction, and coagulation. Due to the high cost of these methods, biological techniques are often employed to decompose the dyes. In the presented study, biological means of dye degradation using Bacterial species were tried out. Multiple bacterial strains were isolated from textile effluent and tested for their ability to decolourize and break down azo dyes. The bacterial isolates showed decolorization rates of 87% (0.1 mg/ml), 86% (0.5 mg/ml), 78% (1 mg/ml), and 75% (1.5 mg/ml) for black dye, and 96% (0.1 mg/ml), 96% (0.5 mg/ml), 90% (1 mg/ml), and 92% (1.5 mg/ml) for pink dye after 48-96 hours at 24°C under static conditions is a chemical, typically an organic component, utilized for permanently coloring textiles and materials.
