Greenlandic, known as Kalaallisut, is an Inuit language spoken in Greenland and is the official language of the country. It is part of the Eskimo - Aleut language family and is closely related to other Inuit languages like Inuktitut. Greenlandic is known for its polysynthetic nature, where words can be very long and complex, often conveying the meaning of a whole sentence in other languages. Approximately 50,000 people in Greenland speak Greenlandic, making up around 85 - 90% of the population.

There are 7,170 languages in the world (Ethnologue 2026), and over half of the entire human population speaks just 23 of them.
