The Melody Maker™ is one of four tunings in the Lee Oskar Harmonica System. Lee originally developed it for his own playing and later offered it to the public as an alternate tuning alongside the Major Diatonic, Natural Minor, and Harmonic Minor. Based on the Major Diatonic but modified for melodic playing, it raises select notes to provide a full major scale from the second position, making it ideal for playing soulful melodies in cross harp.
The Melody Maker™ makes it easier to play Standards and many other songs that can be difficult on a Major Diatonic, while producing a very expressive sound. It‘s the best harp available for single-note melodies, and because the reeds were changed in both draw/inhale and blow/exhale, you can also play beautiful chords on it.
With its three altered notes, the Melody Maker™ is intended for playing Major scale melodies in 2nd Position (Cross Harp). As the arrangements in this book show, that makes it a natural fit for traditional melodic repertoire, from folk dances to classical and Renaissance pieces.
