In presenting this volume to the public, I do not consider an apology necessary for appearing the third time with a treatise on the beautiful and highly interesting game of checkers also known as draughts. The success with which my two previous works (designed mainly for advanced players) have been attended, has induced me to offer this little volume, which is more especially adapted to beginners.
The Elementary Instructions will be found suffciently simple for one and all to comprehend ; while the choice lot of original and selected Games and Positions. will enable all those who will make themselves thoroughly familiar with them, “to lay out the whole army of book opposers."
Having availed myself of everything pertaining to the game, deemed necessary for beginners, I commit the work to the public, hoping it will meet the expectations of those for whom it is designed.
