Act One is what you cook when you have a year of stores, eight people, and a hold full of animals you are forbidden to touch. Act Two is what happens when the rules change and everything on earth becomes food at once. Act Three is Leviticus, and Leviticus takes most of it back.
Every recipe in this book was written to be cooked. The pre-modern ones work in a modern kitchen with obvious substitutions. The authors do not recommend attempting the ones the text itself describes as forbidden, chiefly on grounds of availability.
