What exactly is money?

We earn it, spend it, save it, borrow it, invest it and worry about losing it. We use it to buy food and shelter, but also to pursue education, independence, privacy, status, opportunity and security. A mechanism that helps strangers exchange has gradually become involved in almost every important part of modern life.

Philosophy of Money begins before currency itself.

Sandeep Chavan asks what human beings were trying to resolve before coins, notes, banks and digital balances existed. People already had different needs, capacities, resources and timings. They gave, borrowed, promised, remembered, trusted and carried obligations forward. Money did not create exchange. It reduced the complexity required for exchange.

From that starting point, the book follows money as it expands through human life.

Businesses, banks, institutions, governments and markets appear not as heroes or villains, but as structures that influence how monetary capacity moves and who can reach it.

The final question is deeply personal:

How much is enough?

There is no universal number. Money can provide survival, stability, autonomy and opportunity, but increasing capacity does not automatically create sufficiency. At some point, understanding must determine what the capacity is for.

This is not a personal-finance guide, an investment manual or an argument for or against wealth. It is a philosophical inquiry into one of humanity's most familiar and powerful instruments.

Money matters because it works.

But its usefulness also has limits.

Philosophy of Money asks us neither to worship money nor dismiss it, but to see it clearly enough to return it to its proper place.
