A classic illustrated handbook of wooden staircase construction. This Abacus Press edition reproduces the 1903 Philadelphia edition of Practical Staircase Joinery, edited by Paul N. Hasluck, with a new historical introduction exploring the editor, the book's publishing background, and its place in traditional craft education. Drawing on material contributed by working craftsmen to Building World, the original manual progresses from stair-building terminology and setting-out to increasingly demanding forms of staircase and handrail work. The restored facsimile preserves the original text, engravings, diagrams, contents, illustration list, and complete index, with cleaned scan borders and a new cover. The added historical commentary is presented in the opening introduction; the original manual has not been rewritten as a modern textbook. For traditional woodworkers, restoration carpenters, architectural historians, and readers interested in historic building practice.
