Welcome to Slumbermere, a picturesque village in 1921 rural England, home of Vicar Preston Hubbard and his timid wife, Antonia. While her strict husband devotes himself to preaching the Gospel, Antonia breaks with the Bible-tethered tradition that wives must know their place and dedicates herself to suffragette causes. But Preston’s mission and Antonia’s efforts are sidetracked by the sudden and mysterious appearance of an albino camel that seems to understand more than it should.
Antonia, who longs for motherhood and grieves for the passing of her beloved pet dog, is quick to adopt and name the dromedary Solomon. But Solomon seems to have a malevolent mission of his own.
