I was asked to give a fire safety training session to a group of nurses at the local hospital. There were about a dozen of them. All young.
All curious.
And all very keen to learn how firefighters move patients during an emergency. Everything was going perfectly. We demonstrated wheelchairs.
Dragging patients on mattresses.
Even the fireman's lift. But then two nurses insisted I demonstrate something called the Fireman's Crawl. I should never have agreed. Because halfway through the demonstration something happened that left the entire class roaring with laughter… …and turned my face the colour of a fire engine.
The fireman's crawl is a series of six short stories based on Bryan's experiences in the Fire Service over a number of years.
